Named as one of Screen International’s 2023 Rising Stars, Mia is an IFTA-nominated director whose short films have screened at festivals including Slamdance, Aesthetica and Palm Springs. Mia is a recipient of the Discovery Award from Dublin International Film Festival, and she won Gold at the 2023 YDA’s, Cannes Lions.  

Mia worked as a behavioural psychologist in Ireland and Sri Lanka, and a community worker in Peru and India, before turning to filmmaking. Beginning in documentary, she directed several successful short films such as MOTHER & BABY and THROWLINE, with her work receiving awards from Oscar Qualifying festivals such as Aesthetica and Galway Film Fleadh. Mia directed a number of TV documentary programmes, including the TG4 music series CUMASC, nominated for the Royal Television Society Award 2022. From 2020 to 2021 she was mentored by director Lenny Abrahamson as she transitioned from documentary to drama. Mia’s debut short drama THE PASSION was nominated for an IFTA, and her Screen Ireland Focus Short SAFE AS HOUSES won gold for Best Short at the YDAs, Cannes Lions 2023, amongst numerous international awards. She directed an RTÉ Storyland pilot drama called WRAPPED, nominated for an RTS 2024 award, and was Irish Unit Director on drama series THE GONE. Most recently Mia directed Season 2 of the TG4 music series CUMASC, and is developing a number of TV drama series with Screen Ireland, Sleeper Film, and Pipedream Productions.
